GSIS starts processing claims for typhoon-affected agencies

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said it has begun identifying and processing claims from government agencies affected by Typhoon Carina.

In a statement, Wick Veloso, GSIS president and general manager, said they are contacting all government agencies, local government units (LGUs), and its members to facilitate the claim process.

"We are urging those that are affected to promptly report the damage as this will help the GSIS process claims more efficiently. We thank our members and pensioners for trusting the GSIS in protecting them," Veloso said.

He assured that the GSIS is prepared to aid policyholders by promptly handling claims and providing compensation for eligible damages following a thorough assessment.

He added that "filing your claim is the crucial first step towards recovery. Document the damage with photos or videos to facilitate a smoother claim process.”

In briefings with those affected, the GSIS is advising those covered by the system to capture property and vehicle damage through photographs or videos and to keep a record of emergency repairs.

Vehicle owners should remember not to start flooded engines and should disconnect batteries. Claimants are instructed not to dispose of damaged items without the insurance adjuster's approval.

For non-motor claims, necessary documentation comprises a Notice of Loss, Floor Plan or Building Plan, a Bill of Materials authenticated by a licensed professional, labeled photographs of the damaged property, acquisition documents, and an inventory of affected items.

Claims related to motor vehicles necessitate a Notice of Loss, vehicle registration, driver's license, incident report or affidavit, repair estimates, photographs of the damaged vehicle, the most recent official receipt (OR) of registration, OR of the driver's license (if the vehicle was in use at the time of the flooding), and a trip ticket or Property Acknowledgement Receipt for government vehicles, if applicable.
